FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Is the tour safe?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. All tours are guided, include a full safety briefing, and use Coast Guard–approved life vests. Our guides are experienced professionals who know Mosquito Bay intimately and monitor conditions throughout the tour.
How bright is the bioluminescence?
Mosquito Bay is recognized as the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world. On dark nights near the new moon, the water glows vividly with every paddle stroke, hand movement, and passing fish — an incredible natural light show.
What if it rains?
Light rain does not cancel the tour and often enhances the experience. Tours are only canceled if weather conditions are unsafe (such as high winds or thunderstorms). If we must cancel for safety reasons, we will contact you directly.
Can kids join the tour?
Yes. Children 5 years and older are welcome, provided they can sit comfortably in a tandem kayak with an adult and follow guide instructions. The tour is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. A relaxed pace—no prior kayaking experience needed.
Do I need mosquito repellent?
Mosquitoes are only present on the shore, not while you are on the water.
We limit the use of chemicals to help protect the bay and its delicate ecosystem.
What should I Bring to the tour?
Limit the number of valuables you bring with you.
Photos of the glow are extremely difficult to capture, so we recommend that you leave behind phones or cameras- either at home or in the van so that they aren't lost or damaged.
Everything you don't need or want on the water will be left in the van with the driver.
And if you had a great time, gratuities for your guide are always appreciated.
What to wear?
We suggest casual clothes that can get wet.
Any shoes that can get wet. Water shoes, sandals, and flip flops are acceptable.
We recommend bringing a towel to dry off with after the tour.
*Please remember that due to weather conditions, the bioluminescence may vary from night to night. This is an outdoors adventure tour, so we are at the mercy of Mother Nature.
